The actual computer sends a signal to your monitor to get it to display the picture. It does this on a regular basis (called refresh rate)
This page 'refreshing' causes a flicker on your screen and although you may not see it, your eyes register the flicker and is can cause your eyes to get sore and tired.
To overcome this, every now and again look at somehing across the room and focus on it for a few seconds. Also take at least a 5 minute break once an hour and go away from the PC.
Get regular eyes checks and if you have to wear glasses for reading wear them when you use the PC too.
